Magnesium nitrate is available in three standard forms: Crystal Standard, Flake Standard, and Prilled Standard. The Mg(NO₃)₂·6H₂O content is a minimum of 98% in Crystal Standard and 98.5% in both Flake and Prilled Standards. Magnesium Oxide content is maintained at a minimum of 15% across all three forms. Nitrogen content is not less than 10.5% in Crystal and Flake forms, while the Prilled Standard contains a minimum of 10.7%.

The water insoluble content is limited to a maximum of 0.05% for all grades. The pH value remains within the range of 4 to 7. In terms of appearance, the Crystal Standard is a white crystal form, the Flake Standard comes in 2–5 mm flakes, and the Prilled Standard is available in 1–3 mm prilled granules.

Magnesium nitrate is primarily used in agriculture as a fertilizer to supply essential magnesium and nitrogen required for plant growth and development.
